दुर्गा पूजा-

आश्विन मासक शुक्लपक्षकऽ प्रातिपदा तिथि सऽ नवरात्रीक आरम्भ होइत अछि। आन प्रदेश सऽ मिथिलांचलमे दुर्गापूजा कनिक भिन्न होइत अछि। मिंथिलांचलमे दुर्गापूजा मूलतथ्य पूजा एवम्‌ आस्तिकताक पाबनि अछि कारण नाच गान ओतेक महत्त्वपूर्ण नहि होइत अछि। तैयो गाम सबमे मेला लागैत अछि आ नाटक- नौटंकी के आयोजन रहैत अछि। प्रतिमा पूजा होइत अछि जकर विसर्जन यात्रा दिन होइत अछि। घरे-घर अहि समय विधि-विधान सऽ पूजा होइत अछि। महाल्याक प्रात कलशकेँ स्थापित कैल जाइत अछि आ अहि के चारू कात जौ रोपल जायत अछि जाहिसॅं जयन्ती उगैत छै। भगवती दुर्गाक पूजाक ई दस दिन मिथिला प्रदेशके सबसऽ बेसी दिनतक चलैवला पूजा अछि। कतेक लोक नौ दिनका व्रत करैत छथि जाहिमे सुर्यास्तक बाद फलाहार करैत छथि। अष्टमी वा नवमी कऽ कुमारि भोजक प्रथा सेहो प्रचलित अछि। कतेक ठाम नौ दिनक सम्पूर्ण रामायणक पाठ होइत अछि तऽ कतेक लोक दसो दिन दुर्गा सप्तशतीक पाठ करैत छथि। भगवती दुर्गाक निम्नलिखित १०८ नामक प्रतिदिन जाप करनिहार के सर्वथा सिद्धि भेटैत छैन :

आजुक परिवेशमे बेटी सर्वगुण संपन्न आर आत्मनिर्भर अछि ! हुनकर विवाहके जखन बात आबैत छलए ताँ दुनु पक्ष (वर – वधु) क भावनाकेँ महत्त्व देवक चाही ! हम तँ कहब आब खाली लड़किये टा नञि लड़को सभ मानसिक रूपसँ अइ बातक लेल तैयार रहथि कि शायद शिक्षा, पसंद – नापसंद, व्यवहार के लऽ कऽ ओहो कुनू लड़की द्वारा नकारल जाऽ सकैत छथि !
ई सुनि कऽ किछ अटपटा जेकाँ जरुर लागल हैत किये कि एहि तरहक भाषा तँ हमेशा लड़का (वर पक्ष) वला करैत छथि ! मुदा आब जमाना बदलि गेल यs ओ समय बीत गेल अछि जै समयमे बेटी वला अपन बेटीक लेल एक योग्य वरक तलाशमे भूख, प्यास तक बिसरि जाइत रहथि ! अपन बेटी के हाथ पियर करब ओ सब अपन जीवनक सभसँ पैघ परीक्षा बुझैत रहथिन !
आब सभ जगहक बाद अपनों मिथिलामे ई सभ परिभाषाकेँ एक नया सिरासँ गढल जाऽ रहल अछि ! आब हर माँ-बाबूजी अपन बेटीकेँ ससुराल भेजब दोसर क्रम आर बेटीक आकांक्षा हुनकर स्वतंत्र विचार राखएकेँ पहिल क्रममे राखए के प्रयास कऽ रहल छथि ! आइ के माता – पिता अपन बेटीक भविष्यसँ आशान्वित छथि, चिंतित नञि ! आइ बेटीपर कुनू तरहक दबाब नञि रहल ! आइ हुनको अपन भावी पति (वर) केहेन होइन ई तय करऽ के अधिकार छनि ! कुनू बात के लेल आइ ओऽ वाध्य नञि छथि …
ओना आइयो अपन मिथिलामे शादी – विवाह बुजुर्गे तय करैत छथि मुदा रिश्तामे लड़की के दखल एक सुखद बदलाव अछि, अपन समाजमे आइयो लड़का वला होई के झूठा अकड़क चलन पूर्ण रूपसँ नञि मिटल अछि ! कतो नञि कतो अपनेकेँ लड़का वला दोहरी मानसिकताक चेहरा लऽ कए घुमैत नजर परले हेता !
पछिले सालक बात छी हम एक परिचितक बेटीक रिश्ताक संदर्भमे बहुत परिवारसँ मिललहुँ ! जै मे किछ अनुभव बहुत कटु रहल ! तिरस्कृत सन् बर्ताव देखलासँ मोन बहुत आहत भेल ! हम सब परिवार के आबैत घरी अपन नाराजगीयो अप्रत्यक्ष रूपसँ व्यक्तो केलियनि ! दुखक बात अछि की ऐहेन शुष्क आर रुखल व्यवहार करएसँ लोक शर्मावैतो नञि छथि ! समाजमे नज़र दौरेलासँ देखब की हर जगह लड़की वालाकेँ आत्मसम्मानक साथ खिलवार भऽ रहल अछि !
एक बेर हमर पड़ोसीक बेटीक विवाह तय भेल, वर पक्ष वाला लड़कीयो देखि कऽ गेलथि लड़की हुनको सभकेँ पसंद भेलनि। सभ बात बिचार सेहो तय भऽ गेलनि। लड़की पक्षकेँ लड़का पक्ष वालाक फोनक इंतजार रहनि। दुइ दिनक बाद लड़का वला फ़ोन केलखिन कि हमरा सोचक लेल समय चाही हमर बेटाक लेल पाँच गोट रिश्ता आयल छल। अपने के लेल विचार करब ! आब अहीं कहू, ई सब की भऽ रहल अछि ? एकर मतलब साफ छलए, की लड़कीक भावनाकेँ बूझए वाला कियो नञि छथि !
हमरा हँसीक संगे संग दुखो होइत छल जे हर बेर रिश्ता तय करबाक हक सिर्फ लड़के वाला कऽ होइ छनि ! लड़की वालाकेँ पूछए वाला कियो नञि छथि ओ एक कठपुतलीक समान कियो हुनका हाँ कहनि तय्योमे खुश नञि कहनि तय नया सिरासँ रिश्ताक तलाशमे लागि जाइत छथि ! हुनकर दुःख दर्द कियो नञि बूझक प्रयास करए छथिन ….
हम तँ कहब ई लड़का वालाक ढकोसला आब बेसी दिन नञि चलत। आइ सभ क्षेत्रमे लड़की मौजूद छथि, सर्वगुण संपन्न छथि, संगे आत्मनिर्भर सेहो छथि ! आब खाली लड़किये नञि लड़कोक मानसिक रूपसँ अइ बातक लेल तैयार रहए पड़तनि की शायद शिक्षा, पसंद – नापसंद, व्यवहारकेँ लऽ कऽ ओहो एक लड़की द्वारा नकारल जाऽ सकैत छथि !
विवाहक समय लड़का वाला उर्फ़ बरियातीगन स्व्यंकेँ बढ़ि-चढि कऽ देखाबए लेल बहुत तरहक हरकत करैत छथि, भद्दा मजाक, तरह – तरहक फरमाइश, लड़की वालाक द्वारा कएल गेल व्यवस्थापर बेवजह नाराजगी या भोजन पसंद नञि आबय के शिकायत ! लड़की वाला अपन हैसियतक अनुसार या ओइसँ बेसी निक आवभगत आर व्यवस्था राखैत छथि ! मुदा एहि तरहक बर्ताव हुनकर सब कएल गेलपर पानि फेर दैत छनि !
बेटीक विवाह शुभ – शुभ पूर्ण होइन अइ दबाबमे ओऽ चाहियो कऽ किछु नञि बाजि पावैत छथि !
सभ लड़कीक माँ – बाबूजीक फर्ज बनैत छनि कि ओऽ अपन कर्तव्यक प्रति जागरूक रहथि, संगे ओऽ अपन बेटीक भावनाक सम्मान सेहो करथि ! यदि कुनू लड़का वाला रिश्ताक लेल हँ कहैत छथि तँ ओकरा अपन भाग्य मानि कऽ अपन बेटीक हँ या नञि केँ नज़र अंदाज नञि करी, हुनकर राय जरुर ली ….
विवाहक अइ पवित्र बंधनकेँ बेरीसँ मुक्त राखी ! लड़का वाला अहं आर लड़की वाला बेचारगीकेँ बिसरि जाओ ! बेटेक जेकाँ बेटियोक जन्म सुखद अछि। हर माता – पिता गर्वसँ कहू …… हम लड़की वला छी जनाब………..

बत्तू

एकटा बकड़ी छलि। ओकरा एकटा बच्चा भेलैक। मुदा ओऽ छागर मात्र ४ मासक छल आकि दुर्गापूजा आबि गेल। दुर्गापूजामे छागरक बलि देबाक कियो कबुला केने छलाह। से बकड़ीक मालिकक लग आबि छागरक दाम-दीगर केलन्हि। संगमे पाइ नहि अनने छलाह से अगिला दिन पाइ अनबाक आऽ चागर लए जएबाक गप कए चलि गेलाह। बकड़ी ई सभ सुनैत छलि ओऽ अपन बच्चाकेँ कहलन्हि जे भागि जाऊ जंगल दिस नहि तँ ई मलिकबा काल्हि अहाँकेँ बेचि देत आऽ किननहार दुर्गापूजामे अहाँक बलि दए देत। छागर राता-राती जंगल भागि गेल। २-३ साल ओऽ जंगलमे बितेलक, मोट-सोट बत्तू भए गेल, पैघ दाढ़ी आऽ सिंघ भए गेलैक ओकरा। एक दिन घुमैत-घुमैत ओऽ दोसर जंगलमे चलि गेल। ओतए एकटा बाघ छल, बत्तू बाघकेँ देखि कए घबड़ा गेल। बाघ सेहो एहन जानवर नहि देखने छल, से ओऽ अपने डरायल छल। ओऽ पुछलक-
नामी नामी दाढ़ी मोंछ भकुला,
कहू कतएसँ अबैत छी, नञि तँ देव ठकुरा।
बत्तू कहलक-
अर्चुन्नी खेलहुँ गरचुन्नी खेलहुँ, सिंह खेलहुँ सात।
आऽ जहिया दस बाघ नञि होए, तहिया परहुँ ठक दए उपास।

ई सुनि बाघ पड़ाएल। मुदा रस्तामे नढिया सियार ओकरा भेटलैक आऽ कहलकैक जे अहाँ अनेरे डरैत छी। चलू आइ तँ नीक मसुआइ होएत। ओऽ तँ बकड़ीक बच्चा अछि। बाघ डराएल छल से ओऽ सियारक पैरमे पैर बान्हि ओतए जएबा लेल तैयार भए गेल। आब बत्तू जे दुनूकेँ अबैत देखलक तँ बुझि गेल जे ई सियरबाक काज अछि। मुदा ओऽ बुद्धिसँ काज लेलक। कहलक-
“ऐँ हौ, तोरा दू टा बाघ आनए ले कहलियहु आऽ तोँ एकेटा अनलह”।

ई सुनैत देरी बाघ भागल आऽ सियरबा घिसिआइत मरि गेल।

बाढ़िक खबरि सऽसब दुखी छल। कतेक ठाम तऽ विद्यालय बन्द भऽ चुकल छल। देवीजीक विद्यालय संयोग सऽ बाढ़ि सऽ बचल रहैन। लेकिन ओतय कैम्प लागल छल।बाढ़ि सऽपीड़ित लोक सबके बचाक ओतऽ आश्रय देल गेल। देवीजीके सेवा भाव फेर सब विद्यार्थी एवम्‌ शिक्षकगणके एकजुट भय सामाजिक कार्य करलेल उत्साहित केलकैन।
सबकियो गौवॉं सबसऽ पाइ, कपड़ा आ भोजन जमाकऽ कैम्पमे बॅटलक। दवाईके इंतजाम सेहोकेलक। ओहि कैम्पमे आयल बच्चा सबके लऽ कऽ देवीजी अपन पुरान छात्र सबसंगे पढ़ेनाई सेहो प्रारम्भ केली। तहन अहि विपदाक विषयमे चर्चा उठल तऽ देवीजी सबके पर्यावरणके बढैत तापमानक जानकारी देलखिन।
ओ बतेलखिन, ”सब जगह तापमान बढ़ला सऽ हिमनद सब घमि रहल छै। ताहि पर सऽ हिमालय पर विश्वके सबसॅं ऊंच आ विशाल हिमनद छै जे गर्मीसऽ घमि रहल छै। ओकर पानि हिमालय सऽ निकल बला नदी सबमे आबि रहल छै। तैं ई विपत्ति आयल अछि। अकरा रोकैलेल नदी सबके किनार मजबूत भेनाई बड आवश्यक छै जाहिलेल सामान्य जनता वृक्षारोपण कऽ सरकारक सहायता कऽ सकैत छैथ।बान्ह बनौनाइ तऽ सरकार द्वारा कैल जायत लेकिन जगह-जगह गाछ लगा हम सब तापमान नियंत्रण आऽ माटिक कटाव पर रोक लगा सकै छी। जौं मेघके लौह मानी तऽ गाछके चुम्बक मानू।गाछ रहला सऽ बरखाक अभाव सेहो दूर होइत अछि।
देवीजीक अहि बात सऽ प्रभावित भऽ सबकियो खाली पड़ल जमीनपर आ सड़कक काते-काते गाछ लगेला आऽ कैम्पक लोकसब तऽ इहो मोन बनेला जे अपन गाम घुरलापर ओ सब ओतौ वृक्षारोपण करता आऽ वृक्षके अनायास काटऽ पर रोक लगौता।

बच्चा लोकनि द्वारा स्मरणीय श्लोक
१.प्रातः काल ब्रह्ममुहूर्त्त (सूर्योदयक एक घंटा पहिने) सर्वप्रथम अपन दुनू हाथ देखबाक चाही, आ’ ई श्लोक बजबाक चाही।
कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मीः करमध्ये सरस्वती।
करमूले स्थितो ब्रह्मा प्रभाते करदर्शनम्॥
करक आगाँ लक्ष्मी बसैत छथि, करक मध्यमे सरस्वती, करक मूलमे ब्रह्मा स्थित छथि। भोरमे ताहि द्वारे करक दर्शन करबाक थीक।
२.संध्या काल दीप लेसबाक काल-
दीपमूले स्थितो ब्रह्मा दीपमध्ये जनार्दनः।
दीपाग्रे शङ्करः प्रोक्त्तः सन्ध्याज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तुते॥
दीपक मूल भागमे ब्रह्मा, दीपक मध्यभागमे जनार्दन (विष्णु) आऽ दीपक अग्र भागमे शङ्कर स्थित छथि। हे संध्याज्योति! अहाँकेँ नमस्कार।
३.सुतबाक काल-
रामं स्कन्दं हनूमन्तं वैनतेयं वृकोदरम्।
शयने यः स्मरेन्नित्यं दुःस्वप्नस्तस्य नश्यति॥
जे सभ दिन सुतबासँ पहिने राम, कुमारस्वामी, हनूमान्, गरुड़ आऽ भीमक स्मरण करैत छथि, हुनकर दुःस्वप्न नष्ट भऽ जाइत छन्हि।
४. नहेबाक समय-
गङ्गे च यमुने चैव गोदावरि सरस्वति।
नर्मदे सिन्धु कावेरि जलेऽस्मिन् सन्निधिं कुरू॥
हे गंगा, यमुना, गोदावरी, सरस्वती, नर्मदा, सिन्धु आऽ कावेरी धार। एहि जलमे अपन सान्निध्य दिअ।
५.उत्तरं यत्समुद्रस्य हिमाद्रेश्चैव दक्षिणम्।
वर्षं तत् भारतं नाम भारती यत्र सन्ततिः॥
समुद्रक उत्तरमे आऽ हिमालयक दक्षिणमे भारत अछि आऽ ओतुका सन्तति भारती कहबैत छथि।
६.अहल्या द्रौपदी सीता तारा मण्डोदरी तथा।
पञ्चकं ना स्मरेन्नित्यं महापातकनाशकम्॥
जे सभ दिन अहल्या, द्रौपदी, सीता, तारा आऽ मण्दोदरी, एहि पाँच साध्वी-स्त्रीक स्मरण करैत छथि, हुनकर सभ पाप नष्ट भऽ जाइत छन्हि।
७.अश्वत्थामा बलिर्व्यासो हनूमांश्च विभीषणः।
कृपः परशुरामश्च सप्तैते चिरञ्जीविनः॥
अश्वत्थामा, बलि, व्यास, हनूमान्, विभीषण, कृपाचार्य आऽ परशुराम- ई सात टा चिरञ्जीवी कहबैत छथि।
८.साते भवतु सुप्रीता देवी शिखर वासिनी
उग्रेन तपसा लब्धो यया पशुपतिः पतिः।
सिद्धिः साध्ये सतामस्तु प्रसादान्तस्य धूर्जटेः
जाह्नवीफेनलेखेव यन्यूधि शशिनः कला॥
९. बालोऽहं जगदानन्द न मे बाला सरस्वती।
अपूर्णे पंचमे वर्षे वर्णयामि जगत्त्रयम् ॥

मैथिलीक मानक लेखन-शैली

1. जे शब्द मैथिली-साहित्यक प्राचीन कालसँ आइ धरि जाहि वर्त्तनीमे प्रचलित अछि, से सामान्यतः ताहि वर्त्तनीमे लिखल जाय- उदाहरणार्थ-

2. निम्नलिखित तीन प्रकारक रूप वैक्लपिकतया अपनाओल जाय:भ गेल, भय गेल वा भए गेल।जा रहल अछि, जाय रहल अछि, जाए रहल अछि।कर’ गेलाह, वा करय गेलाह वा करए गेलाह।
3. प्राचीन मैथिलीक ‘न्ह’ ध्वनिक स्थानमे ‘न’ लिखल जाय सकैत अछि यथा कहलनि वा कहलन्हि।
4. ‘ऐ’ तथा ‘औ’ ततय लिखल जाय जत’ स्पष्टतः ‘अइ’ तथा ‘अउ’ सदृश उच्चारण इष्ट हो। यथा- देखैत, छलैक, बौआ, छौक इत्यादि।
5. मैथिलीक निम्नलिखित शब्द एहि रूपे प्रयुक्त होयत:जैह,सैह,इएह,ओऐह,लैह तथा दैह।
6. ह्र्स्व इकारांत शब्दमे ‘इ’ के लुप्त करब सामान्यतः अग्राह्य थिक। यथा- ग्राह्य देखि आबह, मालिनि गेलि (मनुष्य मात्रमे)।
7. स्वतंत्र ह्रस्व ‘ए’ वा ‘य’ प्राचीन मैथिलीक उद्धरण आदिमे तँ यथावत राखल जाय, किंतु आधुनिक प्रयोगमे वैकल्पिक रूपेँ ‘ए’ वा ‘य’ लिखल जाय। यथा:- कयल वा कएल, अयलाह वा अएलाह, जाय वा जाए इत्यादि।
8. उच्चारणमे दू स्वरक बीच जे ‘य’ ध्वनि स्वतः आबि जाइत अछि तकरा लेखमे स्थान वैकल्पिक रूपेँ देल जाय। यथा- धीआ, अढ़ैआ, विआह, वा धीया, अढ़ैया, बियाह।
9. सानुनासिक स्वतंत्र स्वरक स्थान यथासंभव ‘ञ’ लिखल जाय वा सानुनासिक स्वर। यथा:- मैञा, कनिञा, किरतनिञा वा मैआँ, कनिआँ, किरतनिआँ।
10. कारकक विभक्त्तिक निम्नलिखित रूप ग्राह्य:-हाथकेँ, हाथसँ, हाथेँ, हाथक, हाथमे।’मे’ मे अनुस्वार सर्वथा त्याज्य थिक। ‘क’ क वैकल्पिक रूप ‘केर’ राखल जा सकैत अछि।
11. पूर्वकालिक क्रियापदक बाद ‘कय’ वा ‘कए’ अव्यय वैकल्पिक रूपेँ लगाओल जा सकैत अछि। यथा:- देखि कय वा देखि कए।
12. माँग, भाँग आदिक स्थानमे माङ, भाङ इत्यादि लिखल जाय।
13. अर्द्ध ‘न’ ओ अर्द्ध ‘म’ क बदला अनुसार नहि लिखल जाय(अपवाद-संसार सन्सार नहि), किंतु छापाक सुविधार्थ अर्द्ध ‘ङ’ , ‘ञ’, तथा ‘ण’ क बदला अनुस्वारो लिखल जा सकैत अछि। यथा:- अङ्क, वा अंक, अञ्चल वा अंचल, कण्ठ वा कंठ।
14. हलंत चिह्न नियमतः लगाओल जाय, किंतु विभक्तिक संग अकारांत प्रयोग कएल जाय। यथा:- श्रीमान्, किंतु श्रीमानक।
15. सभ एकल कारक चिह्न शब्दमे सटा क’ लिखल जाय, हटा क’ नहि, संयुक्त विभक्तिक हेतु फराक लिखल जाय, यथा घर परक।
16. अनुनासिककेँ चन्द्रबिन्दु द्वारा व्यक्त कयल जाय। परंतु मुद्रणक सुविधार्थ हि समान जटिल मात्रा पर अनुस्वारक प्रयोग चन्द्रबिन्दुक बदला कयल जा सकैत अछि।यथा- हिँ केर बदला हिं।
17. पूर्ण विराम पासीसँ ( । ) सूचित कयल जाय।
18. समस्त पद सटा क’ लिखल जाय, वा हाइफेनसँ जोड़ि क’ , हटा क’ नहि।

VIDEHA MITHILA TIRBHUKTI TIRHUT—

Mulla Taqia has said that Kameswara Thakur founder of the Oinivara Dynasty of Sugaon, who had been ousted by Illyas was reinstated in Tirhut and Mus¬lim officers were appointed for the propagation of Muslim Law.
Firuz Tughlaq’s visited Tirhut many times. Kamesvara Thakura (A .D 1324-53)
Of Khauare Jagatpur mula and was of Kasyapagotra. But Jayapati’s son Hitgu and his son Oin Thakur, an ancestor of Kamesvara had procured Oini village from some Kshatriya ruler. Since than his mulagrama became ‘Dinivara’. He had six brothers.’ He made over the kingdom to his son Bhogisvara. Thakura dynasty, or Sugaon Dynasty of Kamesvara modern Sugarma, P. O. Rajnagar, district-Madhubani. The family name of ‘Oinivara’ is after the name of its – Biji¬purusha.

Oin Thakur was the great-grand-father of Kamesvara Thakur, is said to have established himself in Oini village with the help of Nanyadeva’s descendants. Bhogisvara Thakura (A.D.1353-70)-Kamesvara did not like to shoulder the burden of a reign. He made over the kingdom to his son Bhogisvara Thakura after that Ganesha Raya who was, however, murdered by Arjuna Raya, Kumara Ratnakara and others. Though he ruled for a very short period due to his intelligence became one of the fomous king.
Devasimhadeva lived before the year 1410 A.D. assumed the title (Viruda) `Garudanarayana’ .Under his patronage Vidyapati Wrote Bhuparikrama which was later on, incorporated in Purushapariksha written for his son Sivasimha.
Sridatta compiled the Ekdgnidanapaddhati and Harihara grandfather of Murari, was his Chief Judge. Vidyapati dedicated some of his poems also to him. Devasimha married Hasini Devi daughter of Mahamahopadhyaya Ramesvara of Jalayamula and had two sons – Sivasimha and Padmasimha from her.
ShivSimha ascended throne after his father’s death in A. D. 1412-13 at the age of 50. By this time the poet Vidyapati had become much more familar and intimate with the king who recognised the poet’s greatness and granted him his native village of Bisphi on the occasion of his being installed the ruler of Mithila and changed his capital from Devakuli to Gajarathapuras.He even struck coins in his name, specimens of which were found from a village called Pipra in the Champaran District. He is also said to have erected a Masoleum known as Mamoon Bhanja at Jaruha, near Hajipur.
He faught against the Mohammadans but it is said that he was defeated, arrested and brought to Delhi. Vidyapati showed his poetic genius and obtained his release. Lakhimadevi (A-D. 1412-16) queen Lakhima fled with the royal family, to take shelter in village Rajabanauli in Saptari Parganna (near modern Janakapur in Nepal Kingdom). She waited for twelve years in the hope of meeting or knowing anything of her consort. She e laid down her life as a sati. After Sivasimha’s death his first wife Maharani Padmavati Mahadevi ruled for about one year six months, and after that Lakhima Mahadevi ruled for six years and after her reign, Padmasimha came to the throne.He died only after a year and his wife Visvasa Devi took the management of the state reigned for 12 years with great success.
The collateral branch of Harismhadeva assumed power. Dhirasimha began to rule though Narasimha lived on to that year. Lakshminathadeva, Kamsa narayana, came to the throne after the demise of Ramabhadra¬deva. a very great patron of poetry written and composed in Maithili language, assumed the title of Rttpanarayana. Sikandar Lodi who marched into Tirhut defeated the Tirhut king.
But after some time the Bengal Ruler ended the illustrious Oinivara Dynasty.

She had been honorary teacher at National Association For Blind, Jamshedpur (India). Her Mithila Paintings have been displayed by Ealing Art Group at Ealing Broadway, London.

The reason of the fight was head of a pig. One more story about that old man’s throwing ability was famous. Once, Burhiya didi had visited house of Nand with her son for employment. The lai of Barh cooked by Burhiya didi can be tasted only when Burhiya didi was visiting Patna or the village.
When powers of Zemindars were seized the trend of doing job especially the government job was in vogue and so getting job was very tough too.
The Thakurs belonging to the barber community often complained that Nand had helped every community to get government job except the Thakurs of barber community. Everyone got job but son of the Burhiya didi. The mentality of not doing job was changed too. Otherwise Gulab jha of eastern side of the village used to say that ‘Naukari’ (job) means ‘nai kari’ (not to be done), and ‘vetan’ (salary) means without body or ‘tankha’(salary) means eat your body.
Burhiya didi had myriad stories about well, pond, ditch, orchards and quarrels for those things. Among such circumstances of sharing stories and views Nand’s children started growing.
Nand had never kept his children disconnected from his native village. He used to visit his village with family at least thrice a year- in the summer vacation, in Holi and in Deshera. Children used to visit Burhiya didi’s house to taste the mangoes of that village. They used to walk recklessly on foot everywhere. The experience of wandering frivolously on the sands of the river of Kamala or in the mango orchards was wondrous. The picnic with menu of rice and fish curry in the summer nights in mango orchard, peeling mangoes with clam shells, ‘ti ti, who is called lal chadi’- playing satghariya, sucking smoke by burning lotus stems, experiencing sweet lips after eating mango with edible lime were truly indelible experiences and are not possible to be achieved by children if they didn’t visit village. Nand had once told his son-in-law that he would not return to Shar in his next seven births.
During the flood of Patna in 1975 Nand was shifted to the north bank of the Ganges in order to work in Ganga Pul Pariyojana, a project work of building barrages. Nand was leading a happy family life with two sons and one daughter. Who had ever predicted that the year 1975 would destroy Nand’s happy family?
The abridgement of Aaruni’s story was that at the time of his birth his father was told that it was a daughter and that communication gap came to an end one day before the Chhathihar when his father came to know that he was a boy. The whole misunderstanding proved the fact that the fact was true the way someone knew that till the real truth was known to him. The vivid aspects of truth which is not untrue had efficacy in growth of Aaruni. Baa died before birth of Aaruni. Whenever Baa was recalled by people Aaruni used to listen to those conversations eagerly. In this way Baa had become a part of his life. Baa was not present physically but she was alive in memories of family members.
The connection between Aaruni’s story and Nand’s story was not found earlier but as days passed Aaruni started showing his talents. It is an inevitable quality of human behaviour to compare and discuss similarity and disparity between two things. Many people spend their entire life in doing such analysis. Characters of Aaruni and Nand seemed to be similar somehow. In spite of outer personality and so called difference in thoughts the inner personality was some how same in both characters. At least it appeared so.
Aaruni was also taken care of in the same manner an Indian middle class baby should be brought up. Aaruni’s parents especially his father was keen enough to find talents in Aaruni just like a normal parent who always enjoy discovering skills of his child.
Aaruni used to have many nightmares. He was having both good and bad dreams but bad dreams were more often happening. He was trying to get rid of those. He used to start sweating in midnight and when he got up he found his parents fanning him. He had a keen anxiety to know who was born first. If God had made everything then who had made the God?
He used to be concerned with such philosophic thoughts very seriously. He used to leap on the roof of his house in the well shaped nature in his dreams. Then he used to go unwillingly along the edge of roof like side of a pond. Again he wished to go away from the edge towards the centre but the well shaped nature’s gravity pulled him towards it and he fell down. Suddenly he used to wake up and then he was surrounded by both good and bad thoughts. He used to be happy that it was not a reality but at the same time he used to be worried suspecting the repetition of the nightmare. Aaruni started researching about the circumstances when he was having such nightmares. He used to think that he was awake till 9 p.m., he was also awake till 10 p.m., so when did he go to sleep? But he alleviated his worries by considering the fact that if he could know when he slept he couldn’t sleep at all. His name is changed many times. He also read many mythological books for that. Then his education started. He wrote Ganapati’s ankush and then reciting the sacred lined dedicated to the goddess Parvati and the god Shiva.
Aaruni used to laugh after chanting that mantra. His pronunciation problem was also solved. While learning numbers he used to utter in same rhythm but jumping from ten to nineteen and then from twenty to twenty nine. Nand’s younger son Aaruni was according to his expectations from the very beginning. There was some reason behind that. Nand was teaching him writing one to hundred. First he taught him one to ten and when started eleven he thought that it could be too much pressure for that little boy. But that boy learned eleven to twenty and twenty one to thirty as he felt that it was of the same trend as one to ten. When he discussed that with his father his father challenged him to write up to one hundred. When that boy showed him that correctly then they discussed how to write numbers in words. Nand gave special attention to these four numbers gyarah (eleven), ekkis (twenty-one), unasi (seventy-nine) and navasi (eighty-nine). When mother inspected to know the progress of last half an hour then she came to know that lesson was completed for that day. Father was pleased a lot and mother discussed that fact to very few people being conscious about his son’s wellness. Those instances had made the image of the boy as a perfectionist in the eyes of the father.
Aaruni was addicted to recall his past- the year in which incidents happened, how to remember these years. What he did in his childhood, life story of his parents and other elder people. It seemed that he was very worried how people could do work without his consent. In other words the world should have stopped working when Aaruni was sleeping. He was able to remember only four incidents- like watching ‘Bobby’ movie in theatre, going for photo shoot of long locks with parents before first hair cut ceremony, throwing the bunch of all keys into a ditch as a reaction of being neglected by his mother, any gathering on some occasion in village etc. Aaruni had concluded after thinking all these things that he remembered everything after 1976 when he was 5-6 years old. His mother gave him habit of reading news paper from that age. Nand recovered a diary of Aaruni in which he had recorded all events from his memory chronologically just like a historian.
I, Aaruni, considers the year of 1976 as a turning point of my life. Because my life before that appeared as a few events without any hints of sequences what happened first and what after that. Sometimes I suspect that it is memory of my previous birth.
Year 1976, I with my family and elder siblings was living in colony of workers of the Ganges Bridge Project in Hajipur situated at the northern side of the river. My father is an engineer but he is also a homeopathy doctor having M.D. degree with gold medallist. And this is a kind of his hobby. Residents of the colony collect money to buy homeopathic medicines. My father and a few people go to Kanpur to buy medicines. The drawing room of our government quarter with one almirah, one table and two chairs is dedicated to medicine practice. My small table is also there where I used to read the ‘Aryawart’ newpaper costing 30 paise to my mother. How much I remember is that this colony had two parts, it was surrounded by boundary wall, there was a wall between these colonies too that used to divide this colony in two parts- residential area and warehouse. The area of warehouse used to be filled with scattered iron rods, weighting machine, trucks and a tree. The weighting machine was too big to be effected by me when I was climbing on it. Rather the weight indicator didn’t move when I stood on that. I was told that the machine was made to weight heavy things. The weight of 15 Kilograms of 5 years old boy couldn’t be measured by this machine.
There were one big and one small play grounds in the residential area of this Ganga Bridge Colony. A big water storage tank and a pump house were also situated between these two fields. A huge thick pipe was linked to the pump house for water supply. I still remember it clearly that the pipe was open and I had peeped once into it but after that I was scared knowing the danger of falling down into it. That pipe used to be covered by one jute bag, usually used for storing grains. There was also a government food shop in the north corner of the bigger play ground. In the west of that shop a temple and Hanuman’s statue were built but the work was not completed because there was problem in fixing Hunuman’s nose. Nose of the God Hanuman was not fixed correctly either because of wrong proportion of building material or anybody’s mischiefs. But the work was completed after some days. Aarati was started on every Tuesday. The spirituality was spread in whole colony. People’s ardour of worshipping in that temple was diminished as time passed just like every social organisations. All plans related with that religious organisation remained merely in papers couldn’t be implemented.
I had started going to a school away from the colony. My elder sister and brother were also reading in the same school. One day I quarrelled with one of my classmates. We both have slate-boards and we both started using it as a weapon. Had I hit his head with the slate then he might start bleeding so I used it as a defensive weapon. But he belonged to different group so…..thump…….and blood came out from my head. Teacher took me to the principal’s room. I still remember the smell of the cotton soaked in dettol or savlon. I was not needed to wait for evening and closing of the school day after first aid treatment. I was sent home with my elder sister on an ordinary rickshaw without waiting for the school rickshaw that had a banner of notice “Be careful, school kids are here”. I asked my sister meaning of that phrase. I was of the opinion that it meant all kids on that rickshaw are careful. That boy didn’t agree with me and started quarrel with me. Sister replied that this was to alert other drivers so that they didn’t hit the rickshaw.
I was still dissatisfied and asked, “But why?”
I was growing with such eagerness and queries. During that phase of growing up sometimes maa used to say, “I was saying that when he would grow up and when he grew up he made me more worried.”
I and my siblings used to go to the school established in the name of a Christian Saint. After being injured by slate board my father called a meeting of officers of the colony. It was found that the premise of the centre of public distribution of ration between the play ground and the northern boundary wall of the colony was too big for that purpose. Apart from that, the licence of that centre was also lapsed so the officers had decided to start their school in that premise of three or four rooms having asbestos roof. A committee of not more than four people was made and a few teachers were employed. An invitation to the Gandak Colony situated nearby was sent to send their kids to that school after six months. Name of the school was painted on the outer side of the northern wall which faded after some time. But the fame of that school kept on increasing day by day. Whenever a new guardian was requesting teachers for getting admission of his kid teachers used to suggest him to apply for one or two years junior class to that kid’s present class. They used to present standard of their school distinguished and superior to other schools. Being insisted by parents they used to call me and ask the question that the current applicant was unable to answer and after getting correct answer from me they used to give a pride smile to the parent. In short I was the smartest boy in my school before the student from that village came. No one was as able as I was. I had great interest for studies which was lost later on. Once I was suffering from high fever on the day of exam. I was able to write the paper only when question paper and answer sheets were sent to my home. The school was very small but people of the colony were participating in each of the event with interest whether it was cultural program or sports events. In race of running to some distance by making team of two students and tying one legs together else becoming a three footed creature and solving the maths problem written on the black board on the other end and then returning back to the starting point was a real test of mental as well as physical ability in which I used to be first.
I remember two more incidents. The first incident was arrival of one boy from other village. He was a competitor to me because book of his village was different. But no sooner that difference was gone the challenge was gone too.
The second incident was accident of a child. During play time we used to peep into his room through window to see him and sometimes we used visit his room and read his diary. I remember some parts of that diary which was as follows:
“Due to lack of time I started missing the opportunity to talk about us. The reason was first of all my own habits and after that my accident, because of why 18 months of my life passed like 18 days, uselessly. I was also keen to make up that loss. I tried to do that by waking up early in the morning but due to lack of complete sleep I remained sleepy so could not use that time. Then I tried to reduce my social contact which was achieved without any effort as it seemed that I had a disease without any cure. Different opinions of different doctors…. wrong operations…. and combined effect was so that I had to lead a life of handicapped.
Leave the gossips apart. Even I was losing my faith on doctors. Their optimistic words were unable to solace me. Phone calls for asking about my health condition were reduced day by day. Afterwards I improved from crutch to stick and started driving. Then I faced problem in socialising myself like I used to be earlier. I tried to maintain one-sided relationship with people who were not living away from my place. But other people became beyond approach because of my isolation from them in past years. People who used to laugh at me during my bad days found my good behaviour to them sympathy for their rudeness so they denied to continue relationship with me. People’s negligence saved my time a lot.
First I thought that my colleagues would not recognise me but when I reached the office I was welcomed like a hero. But they didn’t let me know their grief of seeing me holding a stick.
They were always appreciating my courage. When I left the support of stick and went to office in jeans and shirt then someone told me that I was regaining my previous look. I started thinking about that. I made video recording of my walking styles with help of my wife. I was shocked to know that my walking posture was like I was running. Then family members told me that that was too less than my earlier habit. Then I realised that how bad it could be for my well- wishers. Then I realised the reason behind their motivation. The fear of being left alone in crowd of colleagues after passing a long period of loneliness, my expectations rather faith in self being, all led to develop my strong and special personality.
Although he was my fellow but he was pretending as he was a big matured married man.
Miserable life of group of workers, hanging clothes on the trolleys – these views were really heart touching. And in spite of all poverty they used to laugh, able to feel the happiness without having a roof. The beggar children used to peep us with their woeful vision. Insulted by everyone, if I would have to face such a wretched life then how would I face that? And no one simply bother about them then why should I? Am I only the different one? I was thinking that world kept on going even if I was not present everywhere. I used to read a fact in a book that some animals were only able to see two dimensional things. Men can see three dimensional things then had the earthquake and other disasters been brought by someone who can see four dimensional views. Whenever father was buying me a lalchadi worth five paisa, he used to say to look at those people who looked after their families by earning money by selling those lalchadi. The importance and necessity of money could grow as much as you want.



भवान् कथं विद्यालयं गच्छति। अहाँ कोना विद्यालय जाइत छी।
अहं कर्णाभ्यां श्रुणोमि। हम दुनू कानसँ सुनैत छी।
अहं नेत्राभ्यां पश्यामि। हम दुनू आँखिसँ देखैत छी।
अहं पादाभ्यां चलामि। हम दुनू पएरसँ चलैत छी।
अहं हस्ताभ्यां कार्यं करोमि। हम दुनू हाथसँ काज करैत छी।
वार्ता- मान्ये अहं अतः आगच्छामि वा।
किमर्थं विलम्बेन् आगतवान्।
बालाभ्याम् आगतवान अतः विलम्बः जातः।

अहं संतोषेण पाठं पठामि। हम संतोषसँ पाठ पढ़ैत छी।
भवन्तः संतोषेण पाठं पठन्ति वा। अहाँ सभ संतोषसँ पाठ पढ़ैत छी की?
वयं पठामः। हम सभ पढ़ैत छी।
अहं आनन्देन् संभाषणं करोमि। हम वार्तालाप करैत छी।
भवन्तः आनन्देन संभाषणं कुर्वन्ति वा। अहाँ सभ आनन्दसँ वार्तालाप करैत छी की?
वयं कुर्मः। हम सभ करैत छी।
पिता प्रीत्या पुत्रिं पालयति। पिता प्रेमसँ पुत्रीक पालन करैत छथि।
माता सदनया पुत्रं पोषयति।
भक्तः भक्तया देवं नमयति। भक्त भक्तिसँ देवक सोझाँ झुकैत छथि।
कृषकः कष्टेन कार्यं करोति। कृषक कष्टभोगि कार्य करैत छथि।
अहम् उत्साहेन कलहं करोमि। हम उत्साहसँ कलह करैत छी।
हर्षेण/ संतोषेण/ दुःखेन/ लज्जया/ भक्तया/ दैन्येन/ श्रद्धया
भवान् मंजूनाथः सह गच्छतु। अहाँ मंजूनाथक संग जाऊ।
अनन्तः केन सह गतवान/ आगतवान/ सम्भाषणं करोति। अनन्त ककरा संग गेल/ आएल/ वार्तालाप करैत अछि।
अनन्तः मंजूनाथेन सह आगतवान। अनन्त मंजूनाथक संग आएल।
अहल्या दीपिकयाः सह चित्रमन्दिरं गच्छति। अहल्या दीपिका संग सिनेमाहॉल गेल।
हंसा दीप्तया/ शिल्पया/ मिथिलया/ मधुरया/ मालया/ शान्तलया/ रमया/ आप्तया/ नन्दिन्या/ अश्विन्या/ भाष्कर्या/पार्वत्या सह नगरं गच्छति। हंसा दीप्तिक संग नगर जाइत अछि।
फलके शब्दत्रयं लिखितम् अस्ति। एतेषां शब्दानाम् उपयोगं कृत्वा वाक्यं रचयामः।
लक्ष्मणः रामेण सह वनं गतवान्।
रवि मित्रम् नगरम् गतवान्।
गोपाल शिवः संभाषणम् कृतवान्।
गोविन्दः सखी चर्चा कृतवान्।
माता पुत्री बन्धुगृहं गतवती।
सः रमेशः कलहः कृतवान्।
लता सुमा कार्यं कृतवती।
केशवः सुरेशः भोजनं कृतवान्।
रोगी वैद्यः चिकित्सालयः गतवान्।
मालिनी शारदा शाला गतवती।

तैलेन् विना दीपः न ज्वलति। तेलक विना दीप नहि जरैत अछि।
जलेन् विना मीनाः न जीवन्ति। पानिक विना माँछ नहि जिबैत छथि।
आहारेण विना जीवनं कष्टम्।
इदानीं “विना” इति शब्द प्रयोगं कृत्वा एकैकं वाक्यं वदन्ति वा।
धनेन विना जीवनं कष्टम्।
अहम् उपनेत्रेण विना न पश्यामि।
यदा अन्धकारः भवति तदा दीपं ज्वालयमः। जखन अन्हार होएत तखन दीप जराऊ।
यदा वुभुक्षा भवति तदा भोजनं कुर्मः। जखन भूख लागत तखन भोजन करू।
यदा अनारोग्यं भवति तदा चिकित्सालयं गच्छामः। जखन अस्वस्थ होइत छी तखन चिकित्सालय जाऊ।
यदा परीक्षा अस्ति तदा पठन्ति। जखन परीक्षा होइत अछि तखन पढ़ए जाइत छथि।
यदा विरामः भवति तदा प्रवासं गच्छन्ति। जखन विराम होइत अछि तखन प्रवासलेल जाइ जाइत छथि।
अहं वाक्यद्वयं वदामि। भवन्तः यदा तदा योजयित्वा वदन्तु।
विद्युत गच्छति। सिक्थवर्तिकाम् ज्वालयन्ति।
यदा तदा
सूर्योदयः भवति कमलं विकसति
पिपासा भवति जलं पिबतु
पूजा भवति घण्टानादं कुर्वन्ति
वृष्टिः भवति बीजं वपन्ति
सखी मिलति संभाषणं करोमि
परीक्षा समाप्यते संतोषं भवति
यदा यद हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत,
अभ्युत्थानं अधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम्।
इदानीम् एकं सुभाषितं श्रुण्मः-
अपार भूमि विस्तारम् अगम्य जन संकुलम्
राष्ट्रं संघटनाहीनं प्रभवेन्नात्मरक्षणे॥
इदानीं श्रुतस्य सुभाषितस्य अर्थः एवम् अस्ति। एतस्मिन् सुभाषिते संघटनस्य महत्वम् उक्तम् अस्ति। यद्यपि क्श्मिंश्चित् राष्ट्रे विशाला भूमिः अस्ति, अपारा जनसंख्या अस्ति तथापि तस्मिन् राष्ट्रे यदि संघटनं न भवति तर्हि तत् राष्ट्रम् आत्मरक्षणे समर्थं न भवति। एवं संघटनस्य महत्वम् एतादृशम् अस्ति।
